How Transport Allowance works
TPTA offsets commuting between residence and duty. Base rates depend on pay level and whether your posting sits among the 19 Higher TPTA cities. DA is paid on top of only two cases: Levels 1–2 drawing the ₹1,350/₹900 band, and Level 14+ officers who opt for the ₹15,750 car-in-lieu rate. Employees with disabilities draw double the base rate.

How the calculation works
TA = base band rate (+ DA% only for Levels 1–2 below ₹24,200, or the car-opt rate); disability doubles the base before DA
- Pick your pay level and basic pay.
- Choose Higher TPTA city or other places.
- Tick disability only against a valid certificate — it doubles the base.
- Level 14+ officers may compare the ₹15,750 car-opt route.
Worked example
A Level 7 officer in Kolkata draws ₹3,600 flat — no DA rides on that band. A Level 1 colleague in Delhi below the ₹24,200 crossover draws ₹1,350 plus ₹810 DA at 60%, totalling ₹2,160.
What this estimate does not include
- Not payable during suspension or full-time training away from duty.
- Higher-TPTA status attaches to the duty station, not residence.
- Tax treatment under 10(14) varies; exemption is not modelled.
Use the result as a planning estimate, not as personalized financial, tax, legal, or investment advice.
