How 7th CPC gross pay is composed

Gross monthly pay for a Central Government employee has four building blocks: the basic pay cell from the Pay Matrix, Dearness Allowance as a percentage of that basic, House Rent Allowance by city class, and Transport Allowance by level and city zone — flat above Level 2, with DA on TA only for Levels 1–2.

Independently built and maintained · Published August 23, 2026 · Last reviewed August 26, 2026

The calculator reads basic pay directly from the official matrix so there is no manual multiplication to get wrong. It then applies the notified rates in force today: DA at 60 percent from the January 2026 order, HRA in its top slab because DA crossed 50 percent in January 2024, and TA bands from the July 2017 notification.

City class and TPTA zone are yours to declare — the tool never infers location. If you occupy government accommodation, set expectations accordingly: licence fee replaces HRA.

How the calculation works

Gross = Basic + DA(60% of Basic) + HRA(city class, floored) + TA(level & city, flat above Level 2)

  1. Select your pay level; the cell dropdown lists every valid stage from ₹18,000 up.
  2. Pick your city class for HRA and your TPTA zone for Transport Allowance.
  3. Tick the disability box only if you hold a valid disability certificate — it doubles TA.
  4. Compare cells or levels freely: every change recomputes instantly with provenance labels intact.

Worked example

Level 10 cell 1 (₹56,100) in a Y-class, higher-TPTA city: DA adds ₹33,660; HRA at 20% adds ₹11,220; TA for Level 9+ is a flat ₹7,200 — DA is not payable on TA at this level (OM No. 21/5/2017-E.II(B)). Gross ≈ ₹1,08,180 before deductions. NPS contribution of 10% applies on Basic + DA (₹89,760).

What this estimate does not include

  • In-hand figures are Estimated: tax uses new-regime slabs with your NPS and entered deductions only; GPF, professional tax and special recoveries stay excluded.
  • Special allowances (NPA, SI, dress allowance, CEA) are not modelled.
  • Employees drawing pay in Level 1–2 below ₹24,200 receive the lower TA band automatically per rules.

Use the result as a planning estimate, not as personalized financial, tax, legal, or investment advice.
